Let love be stronger

Just One Take

archangelmichael-e1265172023723-394x510.jpgHere’s a thought for today that was inspired by someone I met the winter of 2016 while working at a homeless shelter in the Fargo-Moorhead Community.

I was never your cure. I am your addiction.

You hurt me far too many times, I could mention

After it has all been done and said –

You thought you could leave, but I’m still in your head.

Feelings can get you

August 5, 2018 @ 2:16 a.m.

It’s awful the way feelings can get you. A person could go about life just fine without them. Some folks do it for days or weeks at a time. Others can manage to pull that trick for months or even years. But eventually, those feelings will catch up to you. It’s the good ones that find a way to crack the shell of numbness – that safe barrier between yourself and genuine emotions. But once they get through the door, all the other feelings come flooding in too.

Trust Levels in the Real World Part Two – Shall We Dance?

To reach a level three on the Trust Level tree, you must find some task or activity that either one or neither of you enjoys. At the friendship level of trust, you do things with the other person (or persons) not because you enjoy that particular activity, but because you enjoy their company. Building a fence might be an example – but only if at least one party dislikes building fences. If you both enjoy building fences, then that is still a level two (companions) activity.

“ME: *turning off my alarm* Feeling pretty good about myself today!

ME: *turning off my alarm* Feeling pretty good about myself today!

DEPRESSION: Really? Did you forget about all the sad and/embarrassing things that have happened in your life?

ME: No, I didn’t forget, I just-

DEPRESSION: Remember that time in ninth grade when someone wrote something mean about you in your friend’s yearbook?

ME: Well I’d rather not, but yes I do remember that. Thanks.

DEPRESSION: I could do this all day! In fact, I think I will. Remember back in high school when that friend of yours died? Remember that time at work when you made a mistake and everyone laughed at you?

ME: I remember. Please stop bringing these things up. There’s nothing I can do about them now except feel sad.

DEPRESSION: Maybe you should sit down and draw a cartoon or write something. That would make you feel better.

ME: That’s a good idea.

Caring for Cats

Step One: Prepare Yourself

This may come as a surprise to some, but step one is not getting a cat. There is much to be done in preparing your home and family for bringing a feline into the household. First of all, you must have supplies on-hand for when you bring your little furball home for the first time. Things you will need include:

I will not abandon you.

I’m not sure if you get my messages. You often say you will block my number. So I don’t know if they get through to you – either literally or metaphorically. But I know you check this website every day so I will tell it to you again here. I will not abandon you.

Trust Levels in the Real World (Part One)

As I’ve worked on putting the concept of Trust Levels into practice, one thing I’ve noticed is that the more intimate I anticipate a relationship could be – the slower I will progress someone through the levels. Relationships are challenging – even one between just two amiable people can be difficult. So it’s best to do your research straight from the start and it is even more critical for those you consider bringing into your innermost circle.

I discovered the importance of pacing by accident when I met him at a bar one evening. Both being regulars at this particular establishment, we were surprised that our paths hadn’t crossed sooner. That brought us right up to level one – acquaintances.
