I was never your cure.

As we near the end of another year, I’ve been taking stock of my blog and this was one of this year’s most-popular posts. It is a poem I wrote about a toxic relationship – apparently, many found something in it they can relate to.

I was never your cure. I am your addiction.

You hurt me far too many times, I could mention

After it has all been done and said –

You thought you could leave, but I’m still in your head.

He’s just that kind of guy

20170812_120911

Richard Lee Kodadek

He is charming… he is kind and empathetic… he is generous – or at least he makes the effort to appear that way to the public.

He’s a “regular joe” – the kind of guy who donates his time on a Friday night after a long work week because he has a friend whose daughter has a brain tumor and the local Shriner’s are hosting a benefit for her.

But he’s also the kind of guy who raped his wife.

Ninety-nine percent and what happens to survivors who speak out

As I reflect on this past year in blogging, this is one of the most popular posts I wrote in 2018. When survivors of sexual assault speak out, they take on the risk of knowing some people won’t believe them and they will be attacked for doing so. I am one of the “lucky” survivors who is able to speak out in relative safety – so I feel I must speak not only for myself, but also for those who are unable to for themselves. I know you’re out there… and I believe you.

This is not a post about income inequality. This is a post about the “other” ninety-nine percent. This is a post about the statistical fact that 99 percent of perpetrators of rape walk free among us

The Gift of Failure

“Is there a side of me that wants you to make it? Yes! But I have come to realize that it is the part of me that is selfish, self-serving, and competitive. ” – words from a wise and compassionate father who values his child’s character more than his own pride.

“Failure is so important. We speak about success all the time. It is the ability to resist failure or use failure that often leads to greater success. I’ve met people who don’t want to try for fear of failing.” – J.K. Rowling

A couple of weeks ago, you tried out for an AAU elite travel team. Now, you already how much I absolutely detest AAU teams – although, I’ll admit, it has allowed me to see some awesome locations, meet wonderful people, and play against some of the most talented basketball players to ever walk on a court. The problem is, I have also witnessed the dark side of elite basketball — but, I won’t get into that now; that is for another time.

Honestly, Honey, as we wait for this letter to come in the mail, I keep hoping we receive bad news.

I honestly hope you don’t make the…

How to be a Blogger

First and foremost – you must write!

You can about everything and anything. A blog is your little slice of the world wide web to express whatever is within you that is ready and needs to come out. So use it – don’t abandon or abuse it. You can write about your family, pets, or food. You can write about that song you have stuck in your head or that weird dream you had last night. You can write haiku or free-form poetry. You can write a novel, a short story, or screenplay. Personally, I have written about all these things and more.

What the mask meant to me

I’ve told close friends that when my first husband died, I lost my mind.
