Abel’s legislative experience

Senator Gary Lee (District XX) and Abel Nelson

Senator Gary Lee (District 22) and Abel Nelson (contributing writer)

by Abel Nelson

Yesterday morning (02/04/2013) Mom and I made a trip into Bismarck so that Mom could testify on House Bill 1426. Before Mom could testify, however, she had to have the written version hole-punched with a special hole puncher that made particularly large holes so that when it was put in the record book it would turn the page easier.

The Clothesline Project Comes to NDSU

* get help
* get out
*get a (better) life

by Jacqueline Dotzenrod – HPR Contributing Writer

Women of the Midwest fondly say “farewell” to those bygone days when prairie wives would haul water from the well, heat it over a fire and scrub their knuckles raw over a washboard to clean the laundry. But there is one aspect of this chore coming back into style – the clothesline.

This week at the North Dakota State University campus, the clothesline is serving a new role in giving students and faculty a chance to air out unpleasantness from their past. The Clothesline Project is a nationwide movement that began in 1990 as part of an annual “Take Back the Night” march and rally in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Since then, women have come forward to create shirts and the line continues to grow.

Supporters of ownership law battle ethics charges, flip-flopping

by Jacqueline Dotzenrod

A law that has been on the North Dakota books for 46 years is being contested in the 2009 Legislative Session. The law requires that a licensed pharmacist must “hold the majority stock” (own at least 51 percent) of the pharmacy. There is an exception granted for hospital pharmacies, so long as they only serve the hospital’s patients.

Study shows North Dakotans would benefit from lower prescription drug prices

by Jacqueline Dotzenrod

PharmacistsMortar.svgNorth Dakotans stand to save in several ways if the pharmacist-ownership law is repealed this legislative session. According to the law, a licensed pharmacist must “hold the majority stock” (own at least 51 percent) of the business. North Dakota is the only state to have such a law in place. House Bill 1440 would repeal that law, thus allowing residents access to lower-cost prescription medication.
